On my car, the door panel says 31psi in the front and 29 in the back. But my older brother who knows something about cars said that I should follow the max pressure on the tire itself, which is 44. He told me to pump it to at least 40. But which one is correct? I am looking to get the best mileage on my car.

Answer:
All modern passenger metric tires say “Maximum Load ____ at 44 psi Max Pressure.” Does that really sound like a RECOMMENDATION to you or an informational warning? The pressure indicated on the door panel was arrived at by a team of engineers after millions of miles of road testing and is the optimum pressure for any brand or model tire of the correct size for your particular year and model of vehicle. That pressure takes into account wear, traction, ride, handling, braking, damage resistance and yes, fuel economy. Unless you think you can do better than a team of guys with automotive engineering degrees who did millions of miles of testing then I would suggest sticking with the vehicle manufacturers recommendations. This is also what the manufacturer of your tires would recommend.
