when i turn on my heater/defroster in my ford explorer it smells like antifreeze and it steams out the hood?

what is wrong with my car? What part(s) will need replaced. If I don’t fix these parts will my car die on me somewhere?
Answer:
If you window is fogging up when the heater is turned on, its the heater core. If your window doesnt fog up, its from the motor . Atleast that narrows it down to engine gaskets, or a bad hose. Further investigation is then required to determine cause.
