Is the blower more effective because it is not under the hood and that is it exposed? or what? tell me how they are different and such.
Answer:
The part you see sticking out of the hood is not the supercharger, it’s the intake for the supercharger. The supercharger is a belt driven mechancal air compressor that forces more air(oxygen)into the cylinder for combustion. With more air you need more fuel also. Mileage may be lousy but the power you can generate is considerable. Superchargers are also called blowers for the reasons above. They “blow” more air into the cylinder to mix with more fuel to make more power. There is a horsepower cost with a supercharger since some of the horsepower generated is used to turn the blower. Turbochargers, on the other hand, use exhaust gasses to turn a turbine that accomplishes the same thing as a supercharger; compressing air for the combustion chamber. Turbochargers must wind up to speed to be effective while the effect of the supercharger/blower is immediate. Turbocharger-turbo lag until up to speed-no horsepower cost Supercharger-immediate response-horsepower to drive it Everything is a comprimise…ehh. Hope this helps…JT
