The US wants an Economical Ford!
With the new green movement, it would seem Ford has made the right car in the Fiesta. It’s a cool little automobile with the ability to seat up to five people and get 65 MPG. The Fiesta is the ultimate diesel car, too bad its not coming to America.
The Fiesta has what it take to compete with other fuel efficient cars in the US, too bad Ford will only sell it across the pond. The only reason the President of Ford gave for not selling this car in America is tha it would be too pricey to import.
The American population has adverse thoughts on diesel, this is why Ford is not bringing the car to the US. America’s opposition to diesel fuel is because it still often reminds us of a loud and stinky truck or trailer pouring out black junk, smog, and smoke into our environment.
Diesel cars that are on the market today emit less pollution and get better fuel economy that regular gas powered cars. Any 65 MPG car would be good for America? It is Ford’s belief that North America will not buy a diesel car. The Fiesta ECOnetic is comparable to European diesels but Ford can’t make a business case for bringing the car to the US.
In addition, the Fiesta is made in Britain and importing the car to the US would cost too much money without a profit and Ford doesn’t believe they can charge enough to make any money. With that said, the main question is: will the US ever embrace diesel fuel to allow automakers and manufactures to achieve sufficient scale to make money on those vehicles?Does Ford know what the Volkswagen Jetta TDi is. The Jetta costs about what the Fiesta would cost, gets only 41 MPG on the highway as compared to the Fiesta’s 65 MPG, and finally the Jetta has received numerous accolades for being an ultra green car.Volkswagen is loving the fact that there is not other diesel passenger car to compete with.
