You gotta love SUVs! They’re big, spacious, and most importantly, a lot safer as compared to typical cars. Though some individuals might say that they’re just big, uneconomical cars which guzzle precious fuel and make the planet uninhabitable, they just cannot deny that if they had to put their priceless newborn kids inside an automobile, would they opt for a plastic box on wheels powered by a battery, or a big, bulky, but impenetrable SUV – I’m certain the decision would definitely be the latter.
Arguments apart, let’s get on with what the best SUV 2012 is usually used for. For most part, I’ll function similar to a school bus with many kids involved, or, it may actually be used for what it was initially built for in the first place – spanning tough terrain and discovering those places which civilization hasn’t yet seen. Whatever the purpose, there is definitely an SUV for you.
At the start, it should be mentioned that the now that you can no longer buy a Hummer H1 Alpha, the best SUV by far, when considering luxury, functionality, reliability and capability would definitely be the Range Rover. Available with a big V8 gasoline engine (with or without a supercharger), you can’t go wrong with either one you opt for. The downside though, is the cost – over $80,000, with the top-end version crossing the $100,000 barrier!

If Land Rover’s flagship doesn’t interest you, there are two other amazing SUVs from their stable – the LR4 is one other well put together creation and goes about it’s business in a no-nonsense manner, with the build quality and capability of a battle tank. Moreover, at it’s cost, it does seem like a good deal! Then there’s the Range Rover Sport, which is an attempt to make the king of the jungle seem more civilized – as a lion actually wearing a crown, if you will.
Then theirs Toyota, with their famous Landcruiser. A giant, relaxing and very reliable gentle giant. It will obey your every command without question, and will never turn it’s back on you. And it’s armed with a gigantic V8 gasoline engine which would put out the fire in any further questions. Certainly, there’s an alternative to that as well, within their stable – the Sequoia. It is a little bigger than the big LC (yes, surprising, don’t you think!) but just as capable as well as with a choice of two V8 gas engines at a decent price, great value too.
Then certainly, you get the familiar names – the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban, Ford Expedition. Firstly, the Escalade. It is the pricier of the lot, but brings the most amount of traditional luxury with it. Extremely capable in either situation – on and off road, it makes a strong statement for itself. The Suburban is by far, the biggest of the lot, with amazing room and good towing capacity – it is a wise choice if you too often travel with family and a lot others in tow.
The Expedition not only is the smallest in size, but also possesses the smallest engine of the lot – which is stating something because even considering that it is, it’s still a large V8 after all. And it isn’t any less capable either. A test drive of each must take care of all doubts and help with the comparison.
As always, before any buying decision, be certain to have a look at all of the alternatives and consider which is the best SUV for you, rather than base your selection on what the one you’ve zeroed in on is capable of.
