Taking A Defensive Driving Course In America
Filed Under General
Everyday, more and more seniors who are sixty years of age and older, are enrolling in a defensive driving course in America. Two thirds of the automobile accidents each year involve or are caused by drivers who are sixty-five years of age and older. While most of the older drivers continue to be safe drivers, the aging process cause reflexes to slow down. This makes it difficult for drivers to react quickly in stressful traffic situations. Because many senior citizens continue to be active and remain employed, it would be very unfair to revoke their driving privileges without just cause. To ensure their safety, many senior citizens are taking defensive driving training classes.
AARP, the American Association of Retired Persons, has the most comprehensive defensive driving courses in the US. The AARP courses in defensive driving are designed to teach senior citizens strategies that can help them avoid accidents that could cause them to lose their driver’s license. Completion of a safety defensive driving program will also qualify the driver for a discount on their automobile insurance.
All across America, the AARP is offering a defensive driving course in major cities. The classes are convenient and short; usually lasting no more than two days and the cost of ten dollars is easily affordable. The instructors have been certified to help each senior to look at themselves and determine whether their individual physical limitations will hinder their ability to continue to drive safely. Each senior is taught basic defensive driving techniques to help them avoid accidents and situations that could become dangerous. There is also a review of basic traffic laws and regulations.
Good traffic schools will also offer a defensive driving course in an HTML (online) format. This is a very convenient way to take driving courses. Audio, video and advanced graphics are benefits that can be found included with most online classes. The class work is the same as with the traditional classroom venue, just presented differently. The only difference really is your ability to work anywhere you want to and anytime you want to, as long as you have an internet connection. Sadly, the AARP does not have any online classes available at this time.
