Despite all the success Margaret is soaking in, she faces an unfamiliar situation of deportation. She might have to go back to Canada which would literally mean the end of her career as an editor.
To find a solution to this problem as fast as possible, Margaret resorts to everything she can think of. She finally finds an answer. She makes a declaration that Andrew is her fianc. Meanwhile, Andrew has no clue what Margaret is trying to do. Though Andrew cannot stand Margaret, he decides to go along. We later find out that he agreed to this in order to get the editors post as a return favor.
To fulfill the need of making the engagement official, Margaret and Andrew go through an interview. Here, they are cautioned about many couples these days who fake marriages to avoid deportation. This sends a spill down their spines, however they finish it unscathed. The officials also inform them that questions would be asked about each other to check the authenticity of their relationship. This scene provides some great entertainment.
They go there meaning to spend some quality time with Andrews parents. But due to parental pressure and circumstances, they end up getting married! Here onwards, the movie follows the classic rom-com script.
