I hit a lady in a parking lot, and the dent was small and I said I knew someone that could fix it. It didnt look like much damage and I have a high deductable so I didnt want to make a claim. Later her mother called me and said she was the owner and the card holder and did not want me to have anyone touch her car. She got sassy with me told me she already called the police. I didnt feel coftorable giving her my insurance information so I said I will wait for the police, but its been a day and still have not been contacted. What should I do? I guess I should have been a little more clear seeing some of the answers I got. The accident took place in our work parking lot with a co-worker. I had told her we could fix the dent and she agreeded to it. Later that afternoon her mother called the my job and told me it was her car and she made the decisions and she called the police. She was verbaly abusive towards my supervisor, who would not get involved. The police have not came and it has been more than 24 hours.

Answer:
You can’t get in trouble for not giving your insurance as long as you did give them your contact information. Your insurance company will back you up in case it comes to that. I used to be an insurance broker so I know how these things will go. They are just going to make their life harder by going through their insurance and their premiums will go up. Hopefully they contact you back and you guys can settle it without the need for insurance companies which would actually affect both of your insurance premiums. Don’t worry about the timing. If they contact their insurance and give them your info you will hear from their insurance company, in which case you contact yours and let them deal with it. Hopefully you didn’t hit one of those people who are just out to try to make the most of the system.
